Kassiopi which stands in the foothills of Pantokrator mountain was once a typical Greek fishing port. Despite the influx of tourists it still retains atmosphere of a picturesque Greek fishing village. Early risers will still see the fishermen bring in their catch.With it's Roman foundations and the remains of it's Byzantine walls Kassiopi Castle stands watch over th e harbour.
Legend has it that in the 1500's a mother took her son...who's eyesight had been taken from him as punishment for robbery...to the Panayia Kassopitra. After spending the night there his eyesight was restored. The miracle was attributed to the Holy Mother matron saint of Kassiopi and is celebrated ever since on 8th May.
Kassiopi has a very good selection shops, with fine lace and crocheted goods being a local specialty. With jewelers, craft, gift shops and supermarkets Kassiopi really does have something for everyone!
