Koroni
The distance Athens - Tripoli - Kalamata is 260 Km and can be covered by car in about 3 ½ hours. Koroni is then south, utilising the ring road around Kalamata to avoid the town centre along the sea front, for about 45 minutes along its pretty coastal road through quiet villages on quiet roads well away from the tourist hordes in all but the Greek holidays of Easter and August.Look for car hire firms that deliver and collect at Athens Airport with its direct motorway ring road avoiding the city altogether and utilising the excellent Metro underground link from the city. Koroni harbourfront is gained through narrow medieval streets to its picturesque pavement cafes and restaurants, including a Haagen Daz ice cream parlour, that once served me a sundae boat complete with little sparkler lit in exuberant little flame. Good fun.
