Eastern Peleponnes

The eastern Peoloponnese is surely one of the most interesting areas of Greece. It is not only the origin of our European culture, it was even since prehistoric times important. Archaeological sites like Mycene, Tyrins, Galatas (Maghoula) and Methana (Ag. Konstantinos) show that the Mycenean people already started a high culture from 1600 B.C.

Later the ancient sanctuaries of Epidavros and Trizin founded the modern medicine and the mythical hero Theseus and his battle with the Minoan culture shows the importance of this region. The nature of the eastern Peloponnese is quite different and offers many highlights to nature lovers.

There are even active volcanoes at the eastern edge of Peloponnes with the last submarine eruption in 1700 A.D. near the volcanic peninsula Methana. You can arrive at the eastern Peloponnese even by ship from the harbour of Piraeus. Then you may visit the Saronic islands of Egina, Poros, Hydra and of course the volcanic peninsula Methana.
